Bird Feeders!
















We had a Seneca High School student, Elizabeth Hart, come to shadow Mrs. Durham on Friday. We made bird feeders with pine cones and bird seed.

Weekly Newsletter for January 26-30, 2009

Important Dates/Reminders:
* The Westminster Elementary Junior Beta Club is sponsoring a coat drive. We will collect coats for boys, girls, men and women of all sizes. Please make sure the coats are cleaned before sending them to school. The collection of coats will begin on January 12 and end on January 29.
* Wednesday, January 28th is the 100th day of school! Please remember to send in the 100th projects and 100 snack items by Wednesday. Thanks for your help with this.
* If you have not signed and returned the report card, please do so ASAP! Thanks!
* Book Order is coming home today and will be sent off on January 30th.
* Our next book fair will start on Feb. 6 –
12th. More info coming soon!
* Our Valentine Party will be Feb. 12th at
1:45. More info will come soon!
* We will be out of school on Feb. 13th and
16th.
* PTO is planning a Family Movie Night on

HOMEWORK:
The two sheets/activities are inside your child’s folder. Please work on them this week and return on Friday. Take home readers are coming home this week for the first time. Please read the letter attached.

What We will Learn this week:
Reading: We will be learning the letter/sound for the vowel Oo. We will build words with the –ot family. We will work on patterns in text, retelling a story, and ending punctuation.
Math: It’s the 100th day of school on Wednesday. We will be learning how to count to 100 in different ways and counting groups of 10. We will continue with months of the year also.

Important Dates/Reminders:

*Jan. 21st- Report Cards go home. Please sign and return as soon as possible.
*Kindergarten Registration will be held on March 2 – 6, 2009. Please bring the following items: Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Updated Immunization Record and Proof of Residency. You do not need an appointment for Kindergarten Registration. More detailed information will be sent home as we get closer to this date.
Pre Kindergarten Registration and Screening will be held on March 3, 2009. Please call the school for an appointment on this date. You will need to bring the following items: Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Updated Immunization Record, Proof of Residency, and Proof of Income. More detailed information will be sent home as we get closer to this date.

January 28th- 100th day of school

Reading: We will be learning the letters/sounds for: Bb and Kk. We will also learn the high frequency words: “do” and “what”. We will work on details, main idea, and syllables in words.

Math: We will work on counting by 10’s to 100, months of the year, and drawing pictures to match the number.

*Monday, Jan. 19th- No school, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday
*Jan. 21st- Report Cards Go home.
*Next year Kindergarten Registration: Pre-K is March 3 and Kindergarten is March 2-6. Parents must bring in birth certificate, immunization records, Social security cards and proof of address.

What We will Learn this week:
Reading: We will be reading, The Mitten, by Jan Brett and Alvin Tressault. We will review the letters Ll and Hh and HF words: you and have. We will work with the word family –ip and other short vowel i families. We will use describing words to describe our mittens.

Math: We will be measuring using non-standard units of measurement and counting by 10’s. Please be working at home on the days of the week and months of the year.
